Forte dei Marmi, the most renowned seaside resort of Versilia, owes its name to a small fort that rises in the city center, still visible, erected by Leopoldo I, the Grand Duke of Tuscany in the eighteenth century. Characteristic are the historic center and the district of Imperial Rome, built at the beginning of the twentieth century by Giovanni Michelucci, which hosts numerous villas surrounded by large, shady parks and the Church of Sant’Ermete named to the patron saint of the city. In addition to its beaches Forte dei Marmi is famous also for its events (Feast of Sant’Ermete and San Francesco) and for its markets (Antiques Market, in Piazza Marconi, Vittoria Apuana).

The Versilia has always been synonymous with lively nightlife. Along the seafront of Versilia are some of the discos and most popular places of Italy open till late at night.
